Ed Watson's Historical Influence

Meteorologist & Weather Historian
Bruce F. Watson

My dad, Bruce F. Watson, loved weather. He was well known in Minnesota for his popular Weatherguide Calendar - the first of its kind in the world - and his (literally) thousands of speeches, radio and T.V. interviews.

He showed me how teaching science (weather) is not a matter of speaking about technology, but the art and passion of using the tools - no matter how simple they may be - in order to help people understand nature and science.

For example, when teaching weather, he would take a big flat-bottomed bowl of water, place it on an overhead projector, then spin the water into a whirlpool so people could see how low-pressure and high-pressure forms similarly in water as it does in air.
